Beginner Quilting w/ Ginger Calderon


We will learn essential skills like cutting fabrics accurately, sewing a consistent and precise 1/4 inch
seam, and pressing seams flat for successful quilt blocks. There are some must have tools you
will need to start your first quilt project:

-Sewing machine
-Rotary cutter (45mm cutter and new blades for cutting success)
-Quilting ruler (recommend at least a 12” X 6”)
-Cutting mat (recommend at least a 24” X 18)
-Fabric (recommend 3 coordinating colors in a light/medium/darker shade;
-Thread (basic color like white/off-white/beige or light gray for piecing)
-Pins


We will discuss all of the above essential tools and tips on how to successfully use all of them.
You will cut, sew, press and make two different simple quilt blocks. We will discuss use of
sashing between blocks and cornerstones to enhance combining blocks, and how to
successfully add a simple border.
